► Club Profile
The University of Stirling Mountaineering Club is dedicated to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors, to train them to look after themselves and act responsibly, to protect and maintain the Scottish countryside but most of all, we encourage everyone to have fun.
The club is a focal point in the University for lovers of challenge and adventure whether they be an experienced mountaineer or a budding beginner, there is an opportunity for everyone to become part of the team. We cater to all tastes, be your interest hiking, rock climbing, winter mountaineering, ice climbing or all of the above, we can certainly provide opportunities aplenty. The Scottish countryside is a playground for mounaineers and we are regularly spoilt for choice! Over the last year we have run trips all over the country, from Skye to Arran, Glen Nevis to Glen Coe, from day visits to weekend excursions to week long expeditions. For beginners, we aim to introduce them to all aspects of mountaineering, whereas we hope to push seasoned mountaineers to keep going.
The club is a good place to gain various qualifications (such as First Aid!) and for educational courses run or sponsored by the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. We have even got one group of Gold Duke of Edinburgh volunteers on their way to receiving that invite to Holyrood. Over the next year we hope to organise and run even more trips but above all else, have fun in the great outdoors!
