• Co-ordinate the team of writers and brainstorm ideas.

2003 – 2004 School Reporter
• Write articles for local newspapers Inverurie Advertiser and Inverurie Herald on behalf of my secondary school.

2003 - 2004 School Magazine Committee Member
• Research and write articles and discuss content.

Brig is in a fantastic position at the moment and it has undoubtedly climbed a long distance to be closer to reaching the high standards of the best student newspapers. I want to continue the trek to the peak.

My Plans:

Frequency: I want Brig to print every 2 - 3 weeks. Brig would be smaller in content but more regular in delivery, emphasising the campus feel of the newspaper.

How will I achieve this?

– The Committee: I want to give less work to more people, ensuring that Brig gets completed on time. Dedicated positions I will add: Chief-sub Editor, Head of Advertising, Head of Production, Online Editor, Head of Photography, Head of Publicity and Distribution. I will also add more focus to the News and Sport sections by creating separate positions for campus and national.

– Advertising: More collaboration between the media societies in order to secure bigger advertising contracts. The promise of Brig’s increased frequency should also increase interest in advertising.

– Resources and Facilities: More use of the Journalism software suite in Pathfoot to aid faster production.

– Knowledge and Skills: Run workshops on writing techniques and Indesign software, fronted by Journalism lecturers.

Further Plans:

– Academic Life: Either create an accredited module or link Brig into an already existing Journalism module. Participation in Brig and the media societies would be rewarded and count towards academic progress. This could take a similar format as the Careers Centre modules, which increase employability and practical skills.

– Rewards: A Writers Awards Ceremony, recognising the achievements of the team in the same way as Air TV Oscars and Air3 awards.

– Questions and Answers: Research into why students, particularly Journalism students, don’t participate in Brig.

– Content: New sections to include Fashion and Health/Lifestyle.

If you would like any more information on my plans for Brig, please contact me through my SUSA Online profile.

Many thanks for reading my manifesto and thank you for your vote!
