Ruth Hanna Hola! My name is Ruth Hanna and I am in the final year of my Spanish Honours Degree. During my time at Stirling University I have been involved in the Dance SU Club and the Cheerleading Team however my passion lies with the Women’s Rugby Team (even if I don’t look like a rugby player!). I have been on the Women’s Rugby committee for 3 years now and this has given me the opportunity to see how a sports club should be run. Joining the Sports Union has been an excellent way for me to create new friendships both on and off the pitch and also to improve my skills at the same time. My experience as a Sports Union member has been unforgettable and extremely worthwhile and I would love the opportunity to give something back as a sign of appreciation. Here at Stirling University, sport plays such a big part of uni life, therefore it is constantly changing and developing. This year’s Sports Union has been a huge success however I feel there is always room for improvement and in order to build on this success I aim to tackle the following issues: - Fight for no classes on Wednesdays - Make joining a sports team less daunting - Encourage a more united front between teams - Support the ever-growing number of new clubs and existing ones - Restore Sports Union night at Glow to its former glory I am aware that there are many other important issues relating to the Sports Union that need to be dealt with such as funding, coaching and transport. I promise to give any such issues my full attention and to encourage, support and develop all aspects of the Sports Union to the best of my ability. RUTH HANNA #1 SPORTS PRESIDENT
In compliance with other UK universities I want to try and make it compulsory NOT to have classes on a Wednesday enabling all members to take part in sport and to increase levels of success.
I want ALL students to feel that ALL teams are easily accessible to them, regardless of ability and I want to increase overall levels of participation and commitment within all clubs.
We are all representing the same university. I want to encourage more integration and less rivalry between members.
I want members to feel that their dreams of new clubs can be made a reality. I also want to make sure each existing club has all the necessary facilities and equipment made available to them.
I want to find out exactly what went wrong and to revive Glow as the No 1 location for celebrating our sporting achievements.
And finally after seven years of having a boy president I think it’s about time for a girl to have a shot so please vote…..
