Jamie Simpson #1 for Vice-President (Welfare & Education) Hi, I’m Jamie Simpson, and I’m currently a fourth year Sport Studies and Sociology student. During my four years studying at Stirling I have seen a lot of change and I have experienced everything this university has to offer. I think that I can bring a new, fresh approach to this position as well as ensuring that students get the support that they need. Here are some of the issues I want to address for you: Welfare • I want to work with the university to establish adequate support for all students in both social and academic spheres. • Ensure that all groups have an equal and adequate voice within the university. • Re-launch and raise awareness of the ASC and nightline support network. At present many students don’t know where to go for the support that such services provide. • Work with students to help them manage their student debt. • Work with the liberation officers, giving them the autonomy to represent their groups and run their campaign. • Lobby the university to make sure that accommodation rent rises are not above the rate of inflation. • I will be available and accessible for any and all welfare enquires. • Lobby the university for longer library hours in the build up and during the exam period. It is important that students have as much access to the libraries resources as possible. • Provide more opportunities for students to improve their employability. • Re-establish the advisory role so students know where to go to for academic support. • Provide clarification for students about academic issues and procedures. • Schedule Welfare & Education meetings so that they accommodate for committee members other commitments. • During the library refurbishment I will campaign to provide students with the facilities which they require. • Have an “open door” policy, where I will be available for assistance when you need it most. • Represent the actual views of students and be accountable for the decisions I make. • Make SUSA meetings more open and increase publicity to improve attendance so that students know what is actually happening in their union. MAKE A DIFFERENCE
