Every year these manifestos promise you the same vague ideas on how to get a better Union – without results. After 2 years of working to make a difference, I think it’s time for action not words.

EXPERIENCE
- The University Women’s Officer, tackling the gender pay gap and improving campus childcare.
- Improve academic standards at SSCC level for all four years here.
- Have been a welfare volunteer for the last eight years.
- Has worked at a national level against the spread of tuition fees.

MANIFESTO
Too often the standards of your education are threatened and your individual welfare is ignored. You need a Union that stands up for you and fights your corner.

A better library.
HOW:
- Get departments to recognise now in their grading that studying will be harder with less books, so your grades aren’t affected.
- Make sure you get replacement study space while access is limited and that there is enough of both individual and group space when finished.
- Ensure the ‘Enhanced RBR’ stocks the books you need.
- Win a bigger RBR section.
- Push for longer opening hours.
- Ensure fines stay low and are reinvested in your education.

Improve the quality of your degree and employability.
HOW:
- Work at every level to ensure no more cuts in your class time.
- Pressure departments to offer recorded lectures on WebCT with lecture notes at least 24 hours in advance.
- Work with the Careers Development Centre, ensuring you get the support you need to get the right graduate job.

Make sure you have the support when and where you need it.
HOW:
- Revamp the Advice and Support Centre making it larger and more mobile.
- A reliable Nightline service that’s always there for you.
- Free legal advice, by working with the Citizens Advice Bureau.
- A University that is 100% accessible. There shouldn’t be one corner of the campus you cannot reach.

A Union with better representation so that no student falls through the cracks
HOW:
- A real voice for international students, with better language support, plagiarism information and representation for the new International Study Centre.
- Nursing and Midwifery students that aren’t ignored, through more flexible library hours and out-of-hours support.
- Better support for what mature students need, including childcare on campus.
- Independent liberation campaigns with 100% support and an improved Working Group.

Campaigns that improve your student life
HOW:
- Provide each sports club with a First Aid kit, ensuring at least two in every club get the training to go with it.
- More work on student health and sexual health issues.
- Improved awareness of mental health support.

Online manifestos are limited to 500 words. We have a 150 point, 6600 word manifesto with even more detailed plans for what we want our Union to achieve. Please ask if you want to read it.
