Going Carbon Neutral Stirling

What is GCNS?
Going Carbon Neutral Stirling (GCNS) aims to connect people, communities and businesses with inspiring and practical ways to cut carbon and show that low carbon living can be fun, easy, healthy and might even save you some money too.
Stirling University
Over the past year GCNS has been working closely with the University’s Carbon Management Committee, the Student Union Team & the macrobert team on a number of exciting new projects.
Carbon League
Approx 30 student groups are competing in a carbon league to see which club/society can save the most carbon per person between November 2010 and May 2011. Each student group are currently working their way through a 10 action Carbon Cutter Plan covering food, energy and travel and the winning team will be announced at the university’s annual Clubs and Societies Awards in May 2011.

Carbon Detox - Results so far...
230 individual students began a Carbon Detox last September and are trying to shed a tonne of C02 in 6 months. Pledging to reduce their carbon footprint students are tackling a range of actions from eating more seasonal food to reducing consumption. A nifty purse/wallet sized pledge card with useful facts and information was handed out to help everyone remember their pledges and so far it looks like a whopping 51% of participating students are doing the actions with 20% claiming they do them already. We would like to thank everyone who pledged to Carbon Detox and watch this space for the final results of the Detox at the end of May.
