Manifesto for Election to Post of Disabled Students Officer

If elected post of Disabled Students Officer I would:

  1. Set up a Disabled Students Group which will meet regularly, probably once a fortnight to discuss any issues surrounding disabilities and to discuss any problems that need addressing with regards to university services.
  2. Through the Disabled Students Group run campaigns highlighting the issues which affect people with any type of disability for example, Autism or cerebral palsy.
  3. Raise awareness of different types of disability to the non-disabled students of Stirling University.
  4. Make time available for disabled students to come to me and meet privately to discuss any issues that are causing concern to them personally that are to do with their disability. Wednesday during the day or Monday and Tuesday evenings.
  5.  Represent the Disabled Students Group at various external disability events that were taking place in Scotland and then give feedback to the students.
  6. Work with National Union of Students in Scotland and at UK level to make sure that the disabled students in Stirling University have their voices heard at a Scottish and UK level.
  7. Invite speakers from various Disability Organisations to speak to disabled students as well as non-disabled students to highlight what is going on at a national level with regards to improving services for those people who have disabilities.
  8. At the request of the Disabled students invite politicians along to answer questions with regards to what work they are doing at Holyrood and in Westminster in relation to disability issues.
  9. Host talks in the Halls of Residence to highlight those disabilities which are hidden  with particular emphasise on Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.
