Sean O'Hara Manifesto

Red Tape, noun (Origin: 1730-40)  1. Excessive formality and routine required before official action can be taken.

--

Red tape within politics is a debatable issue – sometimes it’s there to protect, sometimes to manipulate – but it is something which the majority of us are starting to notice more and more in our everyday lives. Furthermore, it’s something which many of us have noticed within the formalities of Clubs and Societies within SUSA. It can often be difficult to set-up a new club or equally to maintain a club because of the bureaucracy and paperwork associated with being involved in SUSA.

And this is what I will zealously and passionately aim to change if voted your STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICER.

If elected, I will dedicate my time to passionately ensuring that:

ü      Red Tape’ is minimised for Clubs and Socs – Our clubs are for socialising, broadening our knowledge and meeting new people, NOT for spending lengths of time doing paperwork;

ü      New Clubs and Socs should be both welcomed and sought after – not bogged down with official paperwork, meetings and deadlines: I believe in creativity, new ideas and minimal bureaucracy;

ü      Clubs and Socs should NOT be FORCED to have a minimum membership fee – Societies should have more say in their own financial affairs and should operate with more freedom, seizing their own opportunities to raise funds – I will ensure that this individuality is SUPPORTED by SUSA;

ü      Clubs and Socs Presidents/committee members get more support from SUSA in the hard work that they do for SUSA – I will aim to have drop-in sessions whereby committee members can get advice, support and ideas with regards to their groups;

ü      There is a fantastic end-of-year Clubs and Societies Awards Ceremony – a night not only of fun and excitement but a night where SUSA will honour and reward all of the Clubs and Socs for all of the outstanding things which they achieve and promote;

ü      Clubs and Socs will be given help to arrange sponsorship, trips and anything else which they need assistance with – this help is invaluable and will always be on offer.

Above all else, I will strive to ensure that SUSA and the University themselves are reminded that without the student body the University would have little purpose – the opinions and voice of the Clubs and Socs should and will be heard.

By voting O’HARA as your Student Activities Officer, you are voting for an injection of approachability, excitement and passion into your Student Union – your opinion will not only be heard but O’HARA will ensure it is understood, remembered and given the respect it deserves!

IT’S YOUR UNION, THEY ARE YOUR CLUBS AND IT’S YOUR VOTE

VOTE SEAN O’HARA #1 FOR STUDENT ACTIVTIES OFFICER.
