RATE Teaching Awards

What is RATE

RATE is Recognising Achievement in Teaching Excellence, a student led teaching awards scheme run by your Students’ Union.

RATE offer students the chance to nominate teachers, lecturers and tutors for their outstanding contribution to education and say thank you in a public way.

RATE also gives the University the opportunity to see the teaching practices that work best and are valued most by its students, so that they can be implemented across all Schools and Subject Divisions.

The RATE Teaching Awards process is made of students’ input alone from start to finish. Students ONLY will be able to nominate candidates, and students ONLY will form the judging panel that will make the final decision on who wins which award.

How to Nominate

You will be able to nominate your tutors and lecturers from the 29th of November online through the University Portal.

… I’ve made my nominations. … What next?

The nominations go to the judging panel to pore over and make the agonising decision of who wins what. The panel is made of students like you as well as Sabbatical Officers at the Students’ Union.

Decisions are based not only on the number of nominations, but on the reasons for nominating, so make sure you give us enough information to do your tutor justice!

Once the panel has made the decision, winners will be announced at the RATE Awards Ceremony in May 2012. If your nominee is one of the winners you could be the lucky one to hand them the awards!
