Charity Officer Manifesto Within our students union we now have a position to help make our university more accessable for charities and charitible events. With the creation of new Charity based societies such as Barnados and the Red Cross there is a growing interest for a range of within our university. As Charities officer i will strive to make sure each charity based society retains its original identity, but at the same time if various charities wish to work together for a shared cause i want to be the person who helps co-ordinate it so the event will run smoothly and as effectively as possible. As a president and co-founder of the Stirling University Red Cross Group i have seen the difficulties that are faced by any new charitable society, and how the need for survival is vital for its long term goals. Therefore i want to help the current charitable societies in the current endevours, especially if they are socities who may be losing their most active members because of graduation. I wish to encourage the formation of new charity groups and give advice on how to form such societies, make sure that they avoid any legal difficulties and ultimately become a well run society that doesnt have to fear for its survival. Also i want to promote one off chartiable events for such major times in the calender as World Aids Day for example, by working with both the union, charitable socities and any other interested parties. To do this i am proposing the following: A charity events Calender whereby each charitable society, or any society or club that wants to work for a certain based event will book a spot on this calender and as such will prevent any two charitable events operating at the same time which would potentially hamper the success of both events. Whilst i understand that some charities cannot work together because of different goals i will strive to find major events like world aids day, which could have a coordinated effort between various groups’ socities and individuals, thereby potentially increasing its success. I promise to work with all the Presidents and committees of all existing and upcoming charity based societies, in order to listen and deal with the problems they face, or if they have any ideas for their respective charity that they want to be promoted. Promotion of major charitable events by giving access to various union facilities; such as our personal printers and i will also provide help with any work involved in the atrium. I Will contact Stirling Council to make street based events and fundraising more accesable to our students. Attempt to get guest speakers representing various charities to come and speak at our University. My experience with the Red Cross Society and contacting heads of other charitable societies has shown me what can be done and what could be changed and made more effective in our Union. Charity based events and societies have always been a struggle and with me as charity officer i hope to lighten that burden. So if you believe that i have the talent and the ideals to make this happen please vote for Joshua Bircham. Thank you
