TANDEM is a brand new language exchange scheme run by Your Students’ Union. It’s about learning languages in a fun and relaxed social environment with your partner without the formality and pressure of tutors, exams or lectures.
Anyone can get involved- all you need is the enthusiasm to learn or practice a foreign language and meet people from across the world. But if you are a language student, or an international student wanting to get quickly to grips with UK culture then there’s no doubt that TANDEM is definitely for you!
Signing up is easy...

Safety
Everyone taking part in TANDEM is a Stirling University Student, but there are a couple things you should bear in mind when you first meet up with your partner:
• Meet in a public space, such as a café or bar, rather than in your own accommodation
• Avoid giving away too much personal information
Basically what we are trying to say is use your common sense and instinct during these first few meetings. Naturally, after a time, we hope you’ll get to know and trust each other well and you’ll have a relationship like any other friend.
Plagiarism
TANDEM is an amazing tool for improving your spoken language, but you should be wary about getting your partner to help you complete academic work. Doing so could get you into serious trouble with the University’s plagiarism regulations. Visit the University of Stirling website for more information.
Problems with Your Partner
Whilst the vast majority of TANDEM pairings will be trouble free, we recognise that there may be circumstances where you may wish to change your partner. Just drop us an email and we’ll find you a new partner, no questions asked!
